Update for the United
Illuminating Small Business Energy Advantage Program -
Program year 2006
5,852,726 kwhrs saved
1,668 peak kW saved
310 projects installed
93 % of those projects qualified for financing
$1,056,009 in incentives paid
Appx $2,200,000 in loans. [ Loans can be transferred
to another account or to a new tenant taking over the
same business. There can be multiple loans on the same
account. Ex: 2 years ago they do lighting only, last
year they decide to do refrigeration and this year we
introduce a new technology they want to participate in,
we can have 3 loans on the customer's account at once
with different terms. We have also changed the terms of
loans for customers that have contacted us who are
having hardships. Ex: They are 5 months into a 20 month
loan @ $200 a month. We re-establish the loan to 36
months and bring the payment down to $111 to ease their
financial situation. ]
We had 2 customers default on their loans in 2006
for appx $13,000.
We installed 71 projects in inner city
Bridgeport and New Haven- saving 1,068,878 kwhrs
in lower income commercial areas
Introduced loan extension option. Example: A project
might be a 14 month payback and the customer would have
the option of up to 30 months of 0% loan. Ex: A customer
may be savings $300 a month in energy and the loan
payment might now only be $150, so they're already
saving $$ from the get-go.
Enhanced documentation processing by moving to
scanning and attachment to e-mail for signatures from
customers and contractors. This helped eliminate many of
the mailing and driving to location delays.
Introduced 2nd Tier level of risk for customers to
qualify for financing. This is for businesses that have
been there for over 2 years. We would give a little more
leeway and put them on a "keep an eye on them" list for
credit. This helped increase the % of participants, the
ones that would say forget about it, I'm not coming out
of pocket with the balance.
Some new measures: HVAC, de-humidification,
Regulators for lighting, LED light replacements for
reech-in refrigerator doors.
EnerNet enhancements: Post-Inspection monitoring,
Reporting; Calculates and records Pass/Fail
statistics for each contractor (and summary for all) and
sets future percentages for post inspection
requirements. In other words for poor performers the
system will recommend a higher % of their future
projects to be post-inspected. Price cap monitoring;
System will monitor the contractors pricing and if it is
over their bid price, a "pop-up" box will inform them.
Date expiration monitoring; The system will now
"expire" projects that were approved by UI for the
contractor to present to the customer and then were not
signed by the customer within 30 days. The system will
also report on any signed contract that the installation
was not initiated after 60 days from the signature date.
