The Oakland
Metropolitan Chamber has always been a
powerful business organization. BrightSource
Energy, a chamber member employer since
2008, is delivering actual utility scale
power by the megawatt to California
residents and for countries and companies
around the world.
BrightSource Energy designs, builds and
operates solar energy plants for utilities
and industrial companies worldwide. The
company currently employs 170 people and
plans to add more in 2010 and 2011.
BrightSource Energy has entered into the two
largest solar power agreements ever: 1,300
megawatts with Southern California Edison (SCE)
and 1,310 megawatts with Pacific Gas &
Electric (PG&E). The firm is now building 14
power plants for PG&E and SCE.
BrightSource
Energy plans to begin building a solar plant
in the Mojave Desert by the end of 2010.
This project alone will create 1,000 jobs at
the peak of construction and permanently
employ 86 people.

AB 32 and California's clean energy
standards are among the reasons BrightSource
Energy is headquartered in California. These
policies create incentives for companies to
develop and sell clean energy to utilities
and other industrial customers.
John Woolard, CEO, BrightSource Energy:
"California's unique combination of
far-sighted energy policies and its access
to world-class talent, research centers and
venture funding have made the state the
center of the nation's clean energy
industry.
In fact, BrightSource's first project in
California for the world's largest solar
power plant will drive 1,000 construction
jobs at peak and generate $250 million in
construction earnings for California
workers."
BrightSource offers an opportunity to grow
with a business that is making the world a
better place, competitive pay and benefits,
and a culture that recognizes the need to
balance life and work.

Clean
Energy & Clean Jobs for California....now
that's a powerful combination!
