How does a California chamber help build the
team that helps their region create and
develop companies that will shape the next
decade of innovations (e.g. renewable
energy, clean tech, robotics, information
security/ management, mobility, biotech)?

Dale Eldridge Kaye serves as CEO/President
of the Livermore
Chamber of Commerce and she will be the
first to note the chamber is just one part
of a team that is developing "Innovation
-Tri-Valley"
Key leaders in the Tri-Valley have come
together to spark a new level of innovation
and collaboration across the region. Given
the unique and diverse assets in the region,
there is an opportunity to not only
influence innovation and job growth
regionally, but also create a unique
collaborative environment that makes a
global impact on some of the world's
toughest challenges and greatest
opportunities.
The concept for this initiative began at the
2009 Innovation Summit and a speech by
Marty Beard, President of Sybase 365.
Motivated by a common belief in the great
potential of the Tri- Valley, a group of 35
business, educational and civic leaders
gathered in November 2009 to discuss how to
better collaborate and focus efforts in the
name of innovation.
"The Ecology of Innovation"
The Ecology of Innovation model is a
framework for assessing the assets and
potential of an innovation region. This
model was developed by Dr. Tapan Munroe
through work with innovation centers around
the world and has been recently published in
his book, "What
Makes Silicon Valley Tick?"
The Ecology of Innovation model identifies
all of the major elements required for a
successful innovation region and considers
the relation between them as a biological
system where interconnectivity and the need
for each and every element to be healthy are
primary concerns. This model will be used to
assess the Tri-Valley and to compare it with
other successful innovation regions.

This GreenSheet features a
"process" approach which differs
from pointing out specific green
businesses or chamber efforts. We
believe strategies like the "Ecology of
Innovation" model are the key to California
successfully building the robust green
economy we'll need to compete with the rest
of the world in the coming years.
