The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Sustainability
Committee develops a "Green Business Certificate
Program".
The
Carlsbad Chamber Sustainability Committee
acknowledges a changing world, and seeks to find and
promote the appropriate balance between the economic,
environmental, and social aspects of the community to
ensure sustainability for current and future
generations. The committee's 2009 goals were to support
sustainable environmental initiatives that included:
balancing business & environment; media involvement with
"Green Businesses"; events related to sustainable
environments; partnering with North County Transit
District (NCTD) on promoting mass transportation and
incentive programs.
The committee was able to accomplish these goals and
more. In 2009 workshops were held on issues of: Water;
Solid Waste & Purchasing; Chemical Use & Pollution
Prevention; Community & Workplace, Energy, and
Transportation. This program and member Green businesses
were highlighted at meetings and workshops, in the
Carlsbad Business Journal, the San Diego Business
Journal, and Carlsbad Magazine. The City of Carlsbad
itself even declared March "Sustainability Month"!
In 2010 the Sustainability Committee intends to provide
continued education at all levels, address compliance
issues & legislation, and 'beyond compliance" & the
Triple Bottom Line. The committee is planning topics for
meetings and 2010 workshops such as: Green Teams &
Networks; Green Labels & Compliance; Green Jobs; Green
Offices & Building Construction; Green IT; Sustainable
Food Systems; Green Military Bases; and Green Education.
